PHRs and the Next HIPAA

4-14-08

The marketplace has recently seen a stream of personal health record (PHR) services and applications being released from diverse groups such as Google and Microsoft, insurance companies, employers and others. The release of these products has left many people questioning how federal and state laws apply to these creations and specifically to what degree HIPAA applies to PHRs. Reid Cushman, Ph.D., who is part of Project HealthDesign's Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) Group, located at the University of Miami Ethics Programs, explores numerous questions regarding HIPAA and PHRs in "PHRs and the Next HIPAA."
