Join us in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 17 to explore the vast potential for personal health records (PHRs) and related technologies to help consumers take charge of their health like never before. Join us as we showcase an array of next-generation PHR applications created through the Project HealthDesign program.

In late 2006, Project HealthDesign supported nine multidisciplinary teams to design and test prototypes of a variety of user-centered PHR applications. These grantees have pushed PHRs far beyond just providing consumers with access to their health information—their PHR tools are designed to meet people’s varied and specific health needs, interpreting their health data and delivering customized feedback that can guide their daily health decisions.

In addition to highlighting what Project HealthDesign teams have learned in the process of developing these PHR tools, the Showcase will feature panels and discussions with leading health IT pioneers, policy makers and industry experts. At the event, you will have the opportunity to:

- See the prototypes that Project HealthDesign innovators developed to demonstrate the practical applications of PHRs to improve people’s daily health.

- Participate in an open dialogue about the prototypes and the future of PHRs, including lessons learned from user-centered design and policy directions to support continued growth and innovation in the PHR arena.

- Hear about lessons coming out of Project HealthDesign and how they might influence emerging PHR services.

- Learn about the functional requirements and common platform components developed by Project HealthDesign and explore how they could have broad application across the PHR field.

- Engage in discussions with key experts on a variety of topics, including future directions that key industry players may take in this arena.

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), with additional support from the California HealthCare Foundation, Project HealthDesign is a $5 million national program designed to support health and information technology pioneers to create a new generation of PHR systems. Administered by a national program office at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Project HealthDesign’s goal is to design and test a variety of PHR tools and applications that work together to help people achieve their various and specific health goals in an integrated fashion. The program is supported by the Foundation’s Pioneer Portfolio, which funds innovative projects that can lead to breakthrough improvements in the future of health and health care.
