Barbara L. Massoudi, M.P.H., Ph.D. is Senior Research Health Scientist at RTI International and leads the Institute’s health informatics program. Dr. Massoudi leads the Technical Assistance Task of the Technical Assistance for Health IT and Health Information Exchange in Medicaid and CHIP project for AHRQ. She also led the Assessment of Variation and Solutions and Impact Assessment reports of the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaborative for AHRQ. Dr. Massoudi is the principal investigator for a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to develop a personal health record application for persons with asthma and depression or anxiety through Project HealthDesign. She was the principal investigator for a personal health record application grant aimed at increasing physical activity among sedentary adults using a user-centered design approach. Dr. Massoudi is immediate Past-Chair of the Public Health Informatics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association. She has more than 20 years of experience in health, public health, and informatics, and has specialized skills in epidemiology and environmental and occupational health. Dr. Massoudi is an alumna of the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service, where she served with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Her current research interests include documenting and re-engineering the business processes of public health, knowledge management, electronic health records, personal health records, user-centered design, and public health informatics training and competencies.

Stephen F. Rothemich, M.D., M.S., is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and Co-Director of the Virginia Ambulatory Care Outcomes Research Network (VACORN). He is a former Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar, is a member scientist at the VCU Massey Cancer Center, and holds a master’s degree in clinical research and biostatistics. As co-director of VACORN, he has intimate experience with the logistical and often unpredictable challenges of practice-based research. More information about Dr. Rothemich
