My-Medi-Health: Envisioning Child-Centered Medication Management
--Biographies accurate as of 2008
Kevin Johnson, M.D., M.S.
Associate Professor and Vice Chair, Biomedical Informatics; Associate Professor, Pediatrics
Vanderbilt University
Team Role: Principal Investigator
As the principal investigator of this project, I worked with the team to create our initial vision for My-Medi-Health and Medi-Teddy that was more carefully crafted by meetings with our user group of parents, school nurses/officials, and by actual evaluations of the concept by children. I attended all design sessions and actively collaborated with the University of Colorado to develop specifications for our joint efforts to study the common platform. I was responsible for drafting progress notes, working with videographers to create our initial vision video, day-to-day oversight of prototype development, and all phases of the project’s evaluation, including IRB application development, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Christopher E. Harris, M.D.
Director, Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
Team Role: Pediatrician specializing in the care of children with cystic fibrosis
As a pediatric pulmonologist, I’ve worked with families and children with cystic fibrosis for many years. I’ve come to know the difficulties that exist with many different medicines being started and stopped in a busy child’s life. Add to this the complexity of various caregivers. Obviously, it’s easy to see that solutions are necessary to help families care for sick children. Joining with the highly regarded Dept. of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt has been great fun for all members of the team as we’ve shared and learned through this project.
Patricia N. Scott, M.S.N., P.N.P.
Instructor in Clinical Nursing; Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for School Health and Pediatric Pulmonology
Vanderbilt University
Team Role: Expert, school health
Patti Scott served as community liaison/advisor for school-based research activities and assisted with organizing Team Medi. She collaborated with Kevin Johnson and Cara Baughman in writing and editing IRB applications and grants. Patti worked with Demoyne Culpepper to recruit and enroll children in the pager study. Her primary role has been to provide real-world experience with pediatric medication management in the home and community. She has 30 years of pediatric nursing experience: primarily in school-based health programs and care of children with chronic conditions. Patti is currently a DNP student in Public Health Nursing.
Michael Weiner, B.S.
Director of Development, Bent LLC
Adjunct Instructor, College of Applied Science
University of Cincinnati
Team Role: Lead Developer
As the lead developer of this project, I worked closely with our team to understand their needs and facilitate the development of the Medi-Teddy Web application. This facilitation included the front-end development and implementation of GUI interactivity and the database backbone. In addition, I was also responsible for developing and managing an API which provided the capability to easily send and retrieve data from the common platform and other third-party tools such as Micromedex and RxNav. I also actively collaborated with the University of Colorado and provided them with documentation and instruction on how to integrate with the API.
