--Biographies accurate as of 2008
Stephen E. Ross, M.D.
Associate Professor, Division of General Internal Medicine,
University of Colorado at Denver
School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center
Team role: Principal Investigator
As Principal Investigator for the Colorado Project HealthDesign Team, Dr. Ross leads the overall project planning for the Colorado Care Tablet. Dr. Ross has been doing work in personal health records since 2001, with the “SPPARO” project, which gave patients online access to test results, and “Diabetes-STAR,” a patient portal to assist in diabetes self-management. As Co-PI for SPPARO, and PI for Diabetes-STAR, Dr. Ross played a central role in developing these programs and researching them in practice. In Project HealthDesign, Dr. Ross is applying his own clinical experience working with older adults, with the assistance of a panel of clinical experts including Eric Coleman MD (Professor of Medicine in the Division of Health Care Policy and Research, and developer of the Care Transitions Intervention), Arthur Davidson MD MSPH (Principal Investigator for the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization), C.T. Lin MD (Clinical Director of Medical Informatics at University of Colorado Hospital), and Sunny Linnebur PharmD (Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacy). Dr. Ross is also assisting in data model underlying the Colorado Care Tablet, and applying the lessons learned from the project in his teaching role as Director of the Health Information Technology Track of the UC Denver Clinical Sciences graduate program, and in helping oversee the Personal Health Records track at the 2008 AMIA Spring Congress.
Katie A. Siek, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Computer Science
University of Colorado at Boulder
Team role: Principal Investigator
Dr. Siek is an expert in human-computer interaction and ubiquitous computing. In the domain of computer applications for health, she has developed handheld applications to assist nurses in the care of premature infants, and to assist adults with chronic renal insufficiency in making appropriate food choices. Dr. Siek developed the protocol for, and oversees analysis of, the cycles of iterative testing and development of the Colorado Care Tablet with older adults who are potential users. Dr. Siek oversees the efforts of two graduate students in the Department of Computer Science (Jane Meyers and Danish Khan), and coordinates the testing efforts with the team’s Professional Research Assistant, Leah Haverhals MA.
